Jandri Barnard has been working as a registered dietician in private practice in South Africa since 2010.  After graduating at the University of Pretoria she returned to her hometown of Newcastle in KwaZulu-Natal to complete her community service year. She also specialized as ARV dietician when working at the Nkosinathni ARV Clinic in Newcastle.

She started her private practice in Newcastle and at Mediclinic Newcastle. But expanded to serve the communities of Vryheid, Volksrust, Dundee and Ladysmith as dietician, insulin educator and renal dietician at the Dialysis Centres. After the isolation of Covid-19 and lockdown she started virtual consultations on appointment, as she believes that a person’s health should not take a backseat even within a pandemic.

During 2009 she was awarded an internship at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands to be part of a study group on Diabetes treatments. Jandri finished her Masters of Science (MSc) in Dietetics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal on the subject of “Eating Disorders & Eating Behaviours”, and presented her research at various national and international congresses. In 2021 and 2022 she gave virtual wellness lectures to the staff of the University of Pretoria. During 2022 she assisted as a coordinator for the NDIS (National Dietary Intake Survey) in South Africa. Currently she is a PhD candidate.

She is passionate to research new food and health topics to write about for national publication online and in print. For her journalistic skills she named the #GoeieGons Journalist of the Year of 2022. She was also awarded in 2019 the Galliova Egg Champion 2nd Prize, 3rd Prize Health Writer at the 2020 Galliova Awards and 1st Prize Egg Champion at the 2021 Galliova Awards.

With more than 12 years experience in the field of nutrition, whether in a clinical (in- or out-of-hospital) or commercial setting, Jandri can assist you in your food service dietician, with nutritional analyses and labelling, recipe development or article writing for newsletters on the latest health and food topics.
